Locavore Dinner at Julienne

Emma and Justin West are celebrating the win of their Foodie Award from the Santa Barbara Independent for Livin’ la Vida Locavore with a locavore dinner party. On the menu at Julienne in Santa Barbara: butter poached ridgeback shrimp, local rabbit pate, Niman Ranch pork loin, local greens salad, and an apple terrine. The meal will be paired with 5 wines. The price is a steal at $70 plus tax and tip.
Santa Barbara Chowder Fest
Sunday, October 24th, 1-6 p.m.

The Santa Barbara Chowder Fest, sponsored by Food & Home magazine takes place on Sunday at the beautiful Montecito Country Club. Restaurants like Brophy Bros., Louie’s, Olio e Limone, Roy’s, and the Wine Cask will be dishing up their versions of chowder for tasting and judging. Proceeds benefit the Legal Aid Foundation of Santa Barbara. Tickets are $75 if you mention the Santa Barbara Chowder Fest website.
The World Food Celebration: Top LA Chefs Dinner

Celestino Drago of Drago Centro

Some great chefs are gathering at Drago Centro in downtown L.A. on Sunday to cook a dinner benefitting The Lee Oneness Foundation dedicated to providing food and water to impoverished children of the world. Celestino Drago, Walter Manzke, Alain Giraud, Alen Ramos and Carolyn Nugent are putting together an extravagant five-course menu which can be seen here. The World Food Celebration Dinner price is $150 plus tax and tip. Wine pairings can be added for additional charges by the glass or bottle. Wine Dinner at Lobo Castle
Saturday, October 23, 6:30 p.m.

Neil McNally, Director of Rosenthal - The Malibu Estate winery, will be on site Saturday night at Lobo Castle for a four-course wine dinner. This is only the 2nd fall wine dinner that has taken place at Lobo Castle, the special-event venue located in the hills near Malibu. Appetizers will be served in the gardens along with the 2008 Surfrider Sauvignon Blanc. Four courses of food like seared scallops and braised short ribs will be paired with four more wines. Cooking Class at Padri
Monday, October 18th, 7 p.m.
Padri Restaurant & Martini Bar in Agoura Hills is hosting a cooking class tonight. Chef and owner Saverio Posarelli will demonstrate Italian dishes. The class includes a meal and a glass of wine. The price is $75. Call 818-865-3700 for reservations.
California Lemon Festival

Goleta’s Girsh Park (7050 Phelps Road) is the site of the two-day California Lemon Festival. This free, kid-friendly, fair-like festival will have attractions like lemon tastings, a pie-eating contest, rides, games, and a Fall Classic Car Show.

Harvest Wine Weekend in Paso
October 15-17

Over 140 wineries in the Paso Robles area have scheduled events this weekend in order to give visitors a full wine-country Harvest Wine Weekend experience. There will be grape crushings, barrel tastings, wine pairings, vineyard tours, seminars, live music, barbecues, and more. Wine Dinner at Saddle Peak Lodge

Saddle Peak Lodge in Calabasas has teamed up with The Duke of Bourbon wine and spirits store in Canoga Park to put on a wine dinner. The dinner, taking place at Saddle Peak, will feature the wines of Joseph Phelps Vineyards paired with five courses like grilled squab breast, Wagyu calotte de boeuf, and a cheese course for dessert. The price is $150.
Brewmaster’s Dinner

Ladyface Alehouse & Brasserie in Agoura Hills is holding a Brewmaster’s Dinner tonight. Brewmaster Dave has chosen 5 different Ladyface ales to serve with an amuse bouche plus four courses of food like chicken ravioli, lamb shank with risotto, and a beer float for dessert. Vom Fass Opening
Wednesday, Oct. 6, 4-7 p.m.

Vom Fass, the specialty spirits store, is having its grand opening tonight in Westlake Village at the North Ranch Mall, 3815 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd. Gifts will be given out to the first 100 attendees. Dietician and author Jerrod Libonati will be on hand. And all of Vom Fass’ olive oils, vinegars, and exotic liqueurs will be available for tasting.
Big Easy Brunch at Coast
Sundays in October, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Coast Restaurant in the Canary Hotel is kicking off a Big Easy Brunch on Sundays this month. The New-Orleans-style jazz band Ulysses will play tunes from the 20’s and 30’s throughout the meal. Special dishes include apple beignets, cheddar and chile grits, andouille sausage and eggs, shrimp jambalaya, and eggs Sardou with ham.
