Wine Dinner at Saddle Peak Lodge

Winemaker Bob Lindquist of Qupe Wine Cellars is bringing some of his wines to Saddle Peak Lodge in Calabasas Thursday night.  Chef Adam Horton will prepare a Pringles-crusted tuna appetizer, popcorn shrimp, and a duo of veal for the night.  Dessert is a cheese plate paired with the 2006 Qupe Syrah.  You can see the entire menu here.  The price is $95 per person.

Dinner in the Vineyard at Mediterraneo

Chef Alberto Vasquez will be putting the new vineyard just outside of Mediterraneo restaurant to use.  The newly planted space on the grounds of Westlake Village Inn has a fountain, gravel walkways, and curving grape arbors.  Bell Vineyards wines will be poured at the dinner with a summer menu.  The price is $75 per person.  RSVP by calling 818-889-9105.

Food Trucks at LA Flea Market

Tons of gourmet food trucks will be parked up at Dodger Stadium on Sunday for this month’s LA Flea Market.  The Willoughby Road truck smokes up Southern food; Ahn-Joo hands over Korean pub food; the CPK truck slices their famous pies; Crepe’N Around flips sweet and savory crepes; and the FrySmith truck tops french fries with delectable eats like marinated grilled steak.  And those are just a few of the options.  There’s also a beer garden this month.

While you’re at the flea market, you might as well browse the bargains at the 450 booths.  General admission is $7 which includes parking.  VIP tickets are available for $15.  Those tickets include early entry at 7 a.m., executive washrooms, and shaded seating areas.

First Anniversary of Zzyzx Cafe

The Camarillo Cafe with the worst name ever is celebrating its one-year anniversary today.  In honor of that Zzyzx Cafe is offering certain breakfast and lunch specials for $1, today only.  Get items like pancakes and gourmet sliders for just a buck.

Saddle Peak Lodge Happy Hour

Wednesday - Friday, 4-6 p.m.

The patio of Saddle Peak Lodge in Calabasas is the site of their very unusual Happy Hour.  The menu changes weekly, and chef Adam Horton comes up with some unusual and delicious offerings like wild game corndogs for $8 each.  You might see chicken liver mousse on grilled bread for $9 or octopus salad with a sweet-hot glaze for $9.  Handcrafted cocktails are available for $7.50 each and wines by the glass are half-price.  It all happens Wednesday through Friday from 4-6 p.m.

Heirloom Tomato Menu at Piatti

Piatti Ristorante & Bar in Santa Barbara is midway through its homage to the heirloom tomato.  Dishes like Caprese salad with heirloom tomatoes, basil and bufala mozzarella will be on offer until almost the end of August.  There are also specials like heirloom tomato granita.

True Food Shoppers Guide

The Center for Food Safety has created an app for mobile phones that lets shoppers identify foods made with genetically modified organisms (GMOs or GMs).  This app was developed because currently there are no laws requiring labeling of foods made with GMs.  The free app is available on iTunes.
